2017 Pinot Noir, 'Walala', Sonoma Coast
Vineyard Notes: Located in Annapolis sitting high up on a knoll where you can see the Pacific on a clear day. Soils are a blend of alluvial and Goldridge loam. Mix of Dijon clones. Dry winter, early bud break, relatively mild summer with a few hot spikes in June and late July. Normal yield. Harvested on 9/9.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Stainless steel fermented, aged for 16 months sur lees in 100% French oak; 35% new oak. Bottled unfined, unfiltered. Lighter shade of ruby red, magenta in color. Sweet, floral nose of rose petal, plum and anise. Secondary aromas of stone fruits, rhubarb pie, wild strawberry and Meyer lemon. Full-bodied flavors of ripe bing cherry and dark raspberry. Big, long finish with flavors of dark red fruits, cinnamon, baker’s chocolate and tobacco framed by round tannins and lively acidity.
