THE CHATEAU

Whetstone Wine Cellars sits on two acres at the base of Atlas Peak Road surrounded by ancient Cedar and Oak trees in the heart of Napa Valley. Located minutes from world-class hotels and restaurants, luxury golf courses, and expansive bike trails, this property is a private haven that represents the perfect blend of old world charm and new world style.

The centerpiece of the property is a French-style chateau, designed by Hamden W. McIntyre and built in 1885 as part of Hedgeside Winery. McIntyre, an expert in gravity-flow winery design, is responsible for several other local wineries, including the impressive grandeur of Inglenook, Greystone, Trefethen, and Chateau Montelena — all Napa Valley landmarks that still endure.

After fully restoring the historic stone distillery building, the tasting salon opened its doors once again in 2013.  The Whetstone Wine Cellar’s 19th century chateau is a full time wine tasting salon that is a beacon for entertaining. Whetstone guests step back in time, where lively conversation, attention to detail, and understated hospitality rule the day.
